All values mm. For metric, the clearance hole is the drill Ø — fine / medium / coarse = close / normal / loose.

Countersinks — inch flat-head · 82° & 100° · ASME B18.6.3 / B18.3

Size Mach-scr head Ø 82° C'sink Ø 100° C'sink Ø

3/8" 0.762 0.762 0.781 0.735
1/2" 0.875 0.875 0.938 0.963

All values inch. C'sink major Ø = the head Ø of that screw family; the angle sets cone depth, not surface Ø. Machine-screw (B18.6.3) head is smaller than socket FHCS (B18.3).

Countersinks — metric flat-head · 90° · ISO 10642

M8 17.92 18.25
M10 22.40 22.73

Metric flat-head / countersunk socket screws use a 90° included angle — don't substitute an 82° tool. All values mm.

1/2" 0.750 0.500 13/16 (0.813) 0.500

All values inch. C'bore Ø clears the head with running clearance; depth = max head height for a flush top (go deeper to recess sub-flush).

Counterbores — metric SHCS · ISO 4762

Size SHCS head Counterbore

M3 5.5 mm 3.0 mm 6.5 mm 3.0 mm
M4 7.0 mm 4.0 mm 8.25 mm 4.0 mm

M8 13.0 mm 8.0 mm 14.25 mm 8.0 mm
M10 16.0 mm 10.0 mm 17.25 mm 10.0 mm

Metric SHCS per ISO 4762 / DIN 912. Counterbore depth = max head height for flush; Ø gives running clearance around the head.

A clearance hole lets the fastener pass freely; a tap drill (smaller) leaves stock for cutting threads — don't confuse them. Counterbore = flat-bottom pocket for a socket-head; countersink = cone for a flat-head. Full reference and notes: clearance hole chart and countersink & counterbore chart.
