Aluminum alloys
The general-purpose aluminum. Easy to machine, weld, and anodize; heat-treatable.
High-strength aerospace aluminum. ~85% higher strength than 6061. Standard for primary aircraft structures.
Classic aircraft skin alloy. Outstanding fatigue resistance from copper alloying.
Stress-free cast aluminum jig & tooling plate. Prized for flatness and dimensional stability, not strength.
Alloy steels
The bread-and-butter alloy steel. Strong, tough, hardenable, cheap.
Premium aerospace alloy steel. Deep hardenability + nickel toughness.
The weldable Cr-Mo alloy steel. Aircraft tubing standard.
Stainless steels
Low-carbon austenitic stainless. Standard for medical, food, and marine.
Precipitation-hardening stainless. Strength of alloy steel + corrosion resistance of stainless.
Semi-austenitic PH stainless. Forms easily annealed, ages to high strength.
The general-purpose austenitic stainless — 18/8. Corrosion-resistant, weldable, ubiquitous; slightly easier to cut than 316L.
Tool steels
The tool-room workhorse. Air-hardens to 60+ HRC with minimal distortion.
High-chromium cold-work for max wear. 12% Cr forms hard carbides.
Hot-work standard. Holds 44 HRC at 540°C continuous service.
Nickel superalloys
Nickel superalloy. Holds strength to 1300°F. Standard for jet-engine hot-section parts.
The corrosion-resistance king. Survives reducing acids, chlorides, sour gas.
Nickel-copper alloy bridging stainless and Hastelloy. Marine, HF acid, reducing media.
Copper alloys
100% IACS conductivity standard. Bus bars, RF housings, heat sinks.
The bushing-and-bearing default. Self-lubricating, anti-galling against steel.
Strongest copper alloy. Conductivity + spring + non-sparking. Be-dust handling required.
The screw-machine standard. Lead inclusions break chips for fastest cutting.
Engineering plastics
The general-purpose engineering plastic. Strong, stiff, low-friction, easy to machine.
Amber transparent high-temp plastic. FAR 25.853 cabin compliant, sterilizable.
Premium engineering thermoplastic. Continuous service to 250°C. The non-metal answer for harsh environments.

Mechanical values are typical room-temperature averages from MMPDS-2024, MIL-HDBK-5J, ASM Handbook v.2, and vendor datasheets. For design-critical applications, verify against material certs (MTRs) at the heat/lot level.
