The trade-off
Strength, weight, and machinability rarely all favor one material. Pick two.
- Lightweight + strong? Titanium.
- Strong + cheap to machine? 17-4PH or 4140.
- Light + cheap? Aluminum 6061.
- High-temp strength? Inconel 718.
