01 · What we use it for

First article through lot acceptance.

The Global S handles the precision-metrology workload across the shop — every AS9102 first-article inspection runs through it, and any part with GD&T callouts (true position, profile of a surface, runout, perpendicularity) gets verified here before shipping.

  • AS9102 FAI — full-feature dimensional verification with PolyWorks reporting
  • GD&T verification — true position, profile, runout, parallelism callouts evaluated against the actual datum scheme
  • Tactile scanning — for free-form surfaces, contoured features, blade and impeller geometry
  • Lot acceptance — sample-based statistical verification on production runs
  • Process capability studies — Cp, Cpk evaluation for new programs and AS9100 audit evidence

02 · When something else is better

CMM isn’t the universal answer.

  • Sub-millimeter optical features → Keyence IM-7000 image dimension measurement system. The CMM stylus can’t reach features smaller than its tip diameter.
  • Surface profile / 3D form → Keyence VR-6200. Non-contact surface scanning for blade form, optical mounts, conformal channels.
  • In-process probing → Renishaw probes on the machines themselves (DVF 5000, Mytrunnion 4G, etc.). Catches issues before parts come off the machine.
  • Press-fit / pin-gauge work → certified pin gauges. Faster than CMM for pass/fail go/no-go applications.
