Multi-Axis Turn-Mill
Doosan Puma TT1800SY — what we run on it.
Twin-turret, twin-spindle live turning center built for parallel cuts and high-volume bar work. 2.625″ bar capacity, ATS magazine loader, high-pressure coolant. Used when volume is high enough that two turrets cutting at once meaningfully shortens cycle.
01 · Specs & sweet spot
Twin-turret production.
- Bar capacity
- 2.625″ (66.7 mm)
- Main + sub spindle
- 30 HP each, synchronized
- Upper turret
- 12-station, live tooling, Y-axis
- Lower turret
- 12-station, live tooling
- Bar loader
- ATS magazine — unattended bar feed
- Coolant
- High-pressure through-tool
The TT1800SY shines on high-volume bar parts where two turrets can split the work — one turret roughs while the other finishes, or upper roughs main spindle while lower turret roughs sub-spindle. We routinely cut cycle time 30–50% over a single-turret machine on parts with multiple features.
- Defense pins, fittings, and fasteners — 4140, 17-4PH, Inconel
- Hydraulic and pneumatic spool / valve work
- Aerospace shaft, bushing, and bearing-carrier production
- Medical instrument bodies — surgical-tool shafts, fluidic interfaces
02 · When NOT to pick this
Wrong-fit jobs.
- Bar > 2.625″ → Doosan SMX 2600 (3.0″) or Daewoo Puma 12S.
- Heavy off-center milling features → SMX 2600ST B-axis tool spindle handles complex 5-axis better than two turrets.
- Bar < 1.0″, high L:D → Tsugami Swiss-type.
- One-off prototypes → Daewoo Lynx — TT setup & programming overhead doesn’t amortize on small lots.
